GladeTrust
A local Nature Reserve
The Glade Trust was formed in June 2007, by the late Sheila Ward and Mildred Durne, with the aim of preserving its land for the benefit of wildlife, and the education of children and adults in natural history, and other art based, and practical outdoor activities.

There are three main areas which make up the Trust; The Orchard, The Woodland, and Wildflower Meadow.

Orchard
The Orchard is an area of tranquillity. It consists of a small pond, Victorian greenhouse, fruit trees, and in the future a pond dipping area, the area will be used for adults and children alike to educate and enhance the understanding of Natural History subjects.

The Woodland
David's woodland is an ancient woodland blessed with great Sessile Oaks, which are over 250 years old, Wild Cherry, Walnut and an old Sweet Chestnut, Elm, Larch, etc. An old swimming pool has been converted to a wetland habitat next to a glade for a future outdoor classroom and outdoor activities.

The Flower Meadow
The Wildflower Meadow is approximately one acre in size and consists of grasses and wildflowers from orchids to Meadow Cranesbill to Yellow Rattle.

BIRD RINGING DEMO

Bird ringing has been an excellent way of monitoring birds for the last 50 years. It show the movements and indicates what we are losing with habitat and other environmental challenges. The information on resident and migratory birds is a basis of what is happening to our woodlands, gardens, farmland , and other habitats. Birds are an indicator of absence of insects, and seed for them to feed. The British Trust of Ornithology, the birdy science bods, enable folk to monitor the resident birds, from Blue Tit to Bullfinch, to enable the Government to take action for their and our protection in the future .
Come to the Glade Trust and get close and personal with birds in your garden, and either enjoy the day , or sign up for more detailed knowledge.
