More Bees for the Glade Trust

It is the time of year that Honey Bees divide to create a new colony. This is mainly due to the need of more room for the bees to expand.

The resident Queen will take roughly half her colony and find an alternative site. The bees that go with her will engorge themselves with honey, and other supplies to get the new hive up and running.

This is the second year running that bees have turned up in the plum tree in the Glades orchard, this time an easier height to collect.

We readied the hive we hope the swarm will accept.

We positioned the hive directly under the swarm, and using glove hands moved the bees to the hive.

With the bees now in the fanning bees showed us we had the Queen in the hive, as otherwise they would leave and again hang where she is.
