At the Trust we make our own nest boxes like the ones in the pics above. Although the large boxes needed to be up in February, the small boxes are not yet taken up by cavity nesting passerines. With a standard hole of 32mm we may get anything from Blue and Great tits, to Tree Sparrows and Coal or Marsh Tits. There are also slim chances of migrant Redstart, or Pied Flycatcher.
Nuthatches also take to our boxes, and the mud caked encrusted nest box is, always an indicator of their presence.
If anyone is iinterested, we make our boxes at cost, £3.80 for a small nest box to £30 for a large box, which can accommodate Tawny and Barn owls. We also check and ring the nestlings and enter the data on the national BTO data base. If you are interested contact us on 07563219606.
